Stepping onto the mats at the tender age of three and launching his competitive career by age five, the young phenom rapidly evolved into a highly feared, undefeated standout across the Japanese youth and regional tournament circuits.

Ogawa’s exceptional kinetic intelligence, spatial awareness, and competitive drive caught the attention of international scouts. When he was just 14 years old, the prestigious Art of Jiu-Jitsu Academy extended a formal invitation for him to relocate to California and enter their highly competitive, elite “Believe and Achieve” scholarship program. Making the life-altering transition across the world as a green belt, he embedded his life full-time into the hyper-structured, world-class training rooms of AOJ in Costa Mesa.

Under the direct, master-level tutelage of Guilherme Mendes, Ogawa’s technical systems advanced exponentially. He put together a historically dominant run through the juvenile and adult colored belt ranks. In 2021, he achieved an absolute sweep of the sport’s primary events, capturing double-gold (Weight and Absolute) trophies at the IBJJF World, Pan American, and European Championships. This momentum translated flawlessly into adult competition, where he secured consecutive back-to-back purple belt World Championships in 2022 and 2023, followed immediately by a brown belt World Championship crown in 2024.
