About

John Danaher is widely regarded as one of the greatest BJJ coaches of all time. Born in Washington D.C. and raised in New Zealand, he moved to New York to pursue a philosophy PhD at Columbia University. He began training at Renzo Gracie Academy and received his black belt in 2002. Despite never competing due to hip issues, Danaher revolutionized modern grappling through his systematic approach to leg locks and submission sequences. His students, known as the Danaher Death Squad, dominated no-gi competition. He currently runs New Wave Jiu-Jitsu in Austin, Texas.
