Overview
Eliana Carauni is an elite Argentinian Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt representing the Positive Jiu-Jitsu team. Universally recognized as one of the premier light-featherweight (Peso Pluma) competitors of her generation in South America, Carauni has built an international reputation for her seamless transitional grappling style, capturing major championship titles across both the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation (IBJJF) and the Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) world circuits.
Early Life: From Gymnastics to Combat Sports
Born and raised in the bustling metropolis of Buenos Aires, Argentina, Eliana was heavily involved in demanding athletic disciplines from early childhood. At ten years old, she initiated a strict competitive schedule in artistic gymnastics, a pursuit that gifted her with the exceptional baseline body awareness, kinetic flexibility, and core strength that would later define her grappling style. During her youth, she also studied classical dance, where she established a lifelong friendship with Miranda Galban—who would also grow to become an influential figure in Argentina’s expanding martial arts scene.
At age 15, Carauni transitioned her focus toward combat arts, joining a local CrossFit facility that housed a regional boxing program. She trained actively as a striker for four years, but her athletic trajectory altered permanently in 2013 when Galban convinced her to cross-train on the grappling mats, igniting an immediate passion for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
Dedication to Positive Jiu-Jitsu
Eliana took her very first foundational classes at the Sukata Academy under the tutelage of coach Luis Luengo (popularly known as “Lula”). After six months, seeking to expand her tactical drilling networks, she shifted her home camp to a prominent De La Riva affiliate dojo, learning under the collective guidance of Walter Alamo, Francisco Cuneo, Pablo Peirone, and Kevin Chierasco.
When that training center eventually experienced an administrative split, Carauni chose to maintain her loyalty to Professor Walter Alamo, who stepped away to build his own independent stable, Positive Jiu-Jitsu. Becoming the centerpiece flagship athlete for the newly formed squad, Eliana orchestrated a dominant run across the regional colored belt circuits under Alamo’s direct mentorship. Her consistency peaked during her purple belt tenure, where she captured gold at the IBJJF Rio Open and claimed a spot on the podium at the IBJJF World Championship. In recognition of her technical expertise and unmatched loyalty, Professor Alamo promoted her to black belt on December 20, 2020.
Elite International Success
Upon stepping into the black belt arena, Carauni immediately established herself against the absolute elite light-featherweights on Earth. In a weight division historically dominated by deep standard fields from Brazil and the United States, Eliana proudly elevated Argentinian sport Jiu-Jitsu to the global stage.
The 2023 competitive window stood as an exceptional grand slam era for her career; she commanded the mats to capture gold at the AJP South American Continental Pro, the AJP Chile National, and achieved a career-defining title run at the highly competitive AJP Grand Slam in Rio de Janeiro. Celebrated for her unrelenting pace and hyper-fluid transitions between guard playing and top pressure passing, Eliana Carauni remains a premier international gold medal threat on the professional circuit.
