Overview
Professor Ronaldo Pereira de Souza Júnior is a world-class Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt and one of the most explosive, dynamic, and hyper-aggressive competitors of the modern era. Representing the powerhouse Atos Jiu-Jitsu banner under the guidance of Master André Galvão, Ronaldo Júnior has commanded the global landscape in the Medium-Heavyweight (Meio Pesado) and Absolute divisions. Celebrated by fans worldwide for his blisteringly fast blitz-passing matrices and a highly dangerous, submission-focused finish rate, he stands firmly cemented as an elite headlining force in modern grappling history.
Early Life & The Uniform Patch Chance
Ronaldo Júnior was born on August 28, 1996, in the mountainous municipality of Teresópolis, within the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Throughout his early childhood, his physical energy was spent strictly on local fields playing soccer recreationally. His introduction to the “Arte Suave” materialized entirely by chance in 2007, triggered by a local neighborhood gym’s promotional marketing campaign. The academy was offering a free uniform patch to any active student who brought a new friend to sample a trial session.
Stepping onto the mats to help his companion secure the prize, an 11-year-old Ronaldo adjusted to his first class wearing basic sweatpants and a borrowed gi top supplied by the head coach, Luiz Felipe ‘Profeta’. Ronaldo fell in love with the complex mechanics immediately. Coach Profeta instantly recognized the boy’s natural kinetic talent, advising his family to fully support the prospect’s path toward professional martial arts.
The Pitbull Lab & The San Diego Atos Scholarship
After graduating to his blue belt under Profeta, Ronaldo moved to Teresópolis’s premier grappling lab, the historic Academia Pitbull directed by Master Adilson ‘Bitta’ Lima. Under Lima’s guidance, his tactical capabilities exploded, sweeping local tournament brackets and rapidly climbing through the blue and purple belt ranks.
In 2017, his exceptional athletic pacing caught the eye of multi-time World Champion André Galvão. Recognizing a future superstar, Galvão offered Ronaldo a life-changing scholarship to relocate his residence to San Diego, California, to embed his lifestyle within the world-renowned Atos Jiu-Jitsu headquarters. Immersed in an elite environment alongside the sport’s greatest minds, his success grew exponentially. Following back-to-back dominant gold campaigns across the IBJJF lower divisions, he was formally graduated to the rank of black belt by Galvão in June 2019.
Black Belt Elite Prominence & Tactical Blueprint
Upon entering the elite black belt ranks, Professor Ronaldo Júnior instantly transformed into an absolute fan favorite, bringing a unique brand of electric movement and technical aggression to the arena. He captured the ultimate crown at the 2023 IBJJF World No-Gi Championships, securing gold to go along with top honors at the Pan American Championships and the American Nationals.
Tactically, Ronaldo Júnior operates a highly physical, crowd-pleasing blueprint, yielding a spectacular 44% submission victory rate in elite global competition. He bypasses defensive bottom configurations using his signature, lightning-fast Toreando Pass and relentless blitzing strings to force heavy transitions. Once past the guard, he is a master at taking the back and isolating the upper limbs. His most successful finishes are Chokes from the Back (accounting for 34% of his submission wins) and precise Armbars (26%), followed closely by traditional triangles. Splitting his legacy between top-tier championship campaigns and masterclass instruction, Professor Ronaldo Júnior remains a leading light of contemporary guard passing innovation and uncompromised martial arts majesty.
