Marina Ribeiro (born June 21, 1985, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) is a highly accomplished Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt competitor representing the elite Checkmat team. Recognized for her exceptionally fast progression through the ranks and a diverse athletic background, Ribeiro has been a top force in the female featherweight and lightweight divisions.Meteoric Rise to Black BeltGrowing up in Rio de Janeiro, Ribeiro was naturally athletic and actively participated in swimming, volleyball, and basketball. She did not discover Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu until 2004, at age 19, when she witnessed a class being taught at her local weight-training gym. Intrigued, she took an introductory class under the legendary multi-time World Champion Ricardo Vieira.The experience immediately captivated her. Ribeiro began training relentlessly, splitting her time between Rio and Joao Pessoa (where she trained under Helder Medeiros). Her dedication and raw talent culminated in a meteoric, four-year rise to the top of the sport—receiving her black belt from Vieira in December 2008.Championship Success and Cross-TrainingCompeting primarily in the Peso Pena (Featherweight) division, Ribeiro quickly established herself as an elite black belt competitor on the international stage. She proved her versatility by winning the prestigious Torneio de Encerramento Judo tournament and capturing 3rd place at the Brazilian National Wrestling Tournament (freestyle), both in 2011.Master’s Circuit DominanceAs her career progressed, Ribeiro seamlessly transitioned to the international Master’s circuit, where she has continued her gold-medal winning habits. Competing under the Baniyas Jiu-Jitsu Club banner, she has dominated premier Middle Eastern tournaments, capturing gold at the Abu Dhabi World Masters Jiu-Jitsu Championship and maintaining a top ranking on the UAEJJF and AJP World Tours.
